On Teenage Pregnancy and Young Moms Going to College
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is a Vice Presidential hopeful whose teenage daughter Bristol’s pregnancy is sparking a lot of controversy. Her joy and approval at having her teenage daughter bring a grandchild into the world has caused quite a ruckus. Heck, even Lindsay Lohan blogged about the issue on her MySpace!
But for those young moms and pregnant teens out there, don’t let this controversy affect you too much. Sure, it can be quite a big leap from childhood to adulthood. But hope still remains. There are those haven’t finished their education because of having a baby, but it’s not impossible to go back to school.
Many teenage moms refuse to go back to college probably thinking, “I don’t think I can go to college AND be a mom at the same time,” or “How can I pay for college and support my child(ren) at the same time?”
The truth is, it is very possible for a teenage mom to go to college. It’s just a matter of will and desire, plus knowledge and access to the means. To those who are worrying about finances: don’t. There is help available for people in your situation aside from scholarships, such as financial aids or grants.
Teen moms who are interested in applying for college grants only need to fill out a form from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Aside from that, you should be a valid US citizen, have a social security number, a high school diploma, and enrolled or accepted as a regular student working to get a specific degree. The process can take about 3 days to a week, but once completed and requirements are verified, you can start college right away.
You should also consider your family’s income tax status. Aside from that, you would also have to keep a certain grade point average to keep the financial aid. But all of the hard work will be worth it in the end, when you finish college and can become a professional in your chosen industry, and still get to be a full-time mom.

I totally agree, I personally take college classes online through UoP, and there are plenty of moms and dads of many ages taking classes and going after their dreams. Excellent post.
